    People Driven Credit Union announces its 29th annual College Scholarship Contest

     

    Entries due by end of the day, June 7, 2019

    Students between 17-25 years old, who are the primary member on a PDCU account, are eligible to participate in the contest. If you plan to attend college in the 2019-20 school year, you are invited to submit an essay for this year’s contest.

    A total of $14,000 will be awarded in the 2019 scholarship contest:

    • One (1) Rose Hubbard Memorial Scholarship winner of $2,000
    • One (1) Margaret Patterson-Bailey Scholarship winner of $2,000
    • Four (4) $1,500 Scholarship winners
    • Four (4) $1,000 Scholarship winners

    The essay topic for this year’s College Scholarship Contest is:

    Write a message to yourself on the day before your first day as a high school freshman. What advice would you give yourself?

    What question would you ask the future you on the day after your college graduation?

    Essays should be 1-2 pages. All entries must be received by end of the day, Friday, June 7 and must include the complete information from the application (below). Any entry not meeting these requirements, or any other contest rule, may be disqualified.

    Winners will be announced by email to all entrants on, or soon after, July 12, 2019.

    To submit your entry electronically, enter all of the info requested above into the body of an email, and attach your essay file. We prefer MS Word format but can accept a pdf.

    Entries that do not include all the information requested may be disqualified.

Official Rules

  • The student applying for the scholarship must be the primary member on an account at People Driven Credit Union.
  • Applicants must be between 17-25 years old as of June 1, 2019, and plan on attending a college or university during the 2019-2020 school year.
  • The scholarship will be awarded based upon an essay on this year’s topic. Please try to restrict your essay to 1 page and no more than 2 pages (single or double spaced.)
  • Only one entry per member.
  • Essays will be judged upon content, originality, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • To help assure unbiased judging of the essays, all entries should be anonymous of the author. Any reference within the essay that might identify its author may be edited out. This includes the name of the school you will be attending.
  • Winners will be announced on, or soon after, July 12, 2019.
  • Prize Awards winners must provide the credit union with proof of enrollment to an accredited college, university, or community college for the 2019-2020 school year. {Note: this information is not required when submitting an essay. It only applies after winning a scholarship.} Scholarship awards will be deposited directly to the winner’s credit union account upon receipt of proof of enrollment. Alternatively, scholarships may be sent directly to the college or university to be credited to the student’s registration account, in which case proof of enrollment is not required.
  • PDCU employees, official family and members of their families are not eligible for the scholarship program.
  • The essay and application must be received by end of day on June 7, 2019
