90 Acts of Kindness

December, 2018 marked PDCU’s 90th anniversary of our founding. In celebration, we challenged our staff and volunteers to perform 90 Acts of Kindness – little or big – for family, friends or strangers. Doing our part to inspire widening ripples of kindness. See what our PDCU family accomplished!

Some of the kindnesses performed, include:

In honor of our founding in 1928, the credit union, directors and staff pooled their money to payoff $1,928 in unpaid lunch money for students at Southfield High School
The credit union paid $3,000 to sponsor 2 local high schools for the Dave Ramsey, “Foundation in Personal Finance,” a semester-long curriculum used to help educate students in smart money handling.
During our annual staff training day, the entire staff participated in making 20 fleece blankets to donate to “Fleece and Thank You” a non-profit group that takes blankets to hospitals around Michigan, so that every child being admitted to the hospital will have something warm and friendly in their room.
With just one week before the event, the PDCU staff set a goal to raise $1,000 for the ACA Making Strides walk, Detroit. Between individual fundraising and department events, we raised over $1,300 in one week!
On the morning before Thanksgiving, Six PDCU employees went to the Ronald McDonald House at the DMC Children’s Hospital to make breakfast for the families staying there over Thanksgiving.

Foodbank Aid after Government Shutdown

Early in 2019, a 26 day government shutdown left many federal workers without income. This in turn put a strain on food banks, which were depleted and left without food to assist those in need. People Driven responded by donating $5,000 to local food banks, one in each of the communities of our branches:

Forgotten Harvest – Southfield
Gleaners Food Bank – Warren
Gleaners Food Bank – Detroit
Samaritan House – Romeo
Compassion Ministry – Ypsilanti

PDCU is a proud sponsor of the Detroit Arsenal Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation website and services. FMWR helps provide support services enhancing the quality of life for soldiers and their families in our community.

Casual Dress Friday Fund

Our employees donate to a Casual Dress Friday Fund, making contributions of over $4.000 in 2018! We capped off the year with a donation to Southfield Goodfellows. When we heard that our local Goodfellows had unexpectedly lost their head of fundraising just prior to the season, and this may prevent families in need in Southfield from having a Christmas, the staff of PDCU decided to make a donation of $3,000 from our casual day fund to assist the organization in their work in our shared community.
